Gluten Free Diet

25 Oct

So, we have been hearing a lot about this term ‘Gluten’ and ‘Gluten-Free’. Let’s see what this is all about.

Gluten is a protein found in wheat (including kamut and spelt), barleyrye, malts and triticale. It is used as a food additive in the form of a flavoring, stabilizing or thickening agent, often as “dextrin”. A gluten-free diet is the only medically accepted treatment for celiac disease,[1] the related condition dermatitis herpetiformis,[2] and wheat allergy.[1]

gluten-free diet is a diet that excludes foods containing gluten. A gluten-free diet might also exclude oats. Medical practitioners are divided on whether oats are an allergen to celiac disease sufferers[3] or if they are cross-contaminated in milling facilities by other allergens.[4] Oats may also be contaminated when grown in rotation with wheat (wheat seeds from the previous harvest sprouting up again in the oat field and being harvested along with the oats).

The term gluten-free is generally used to indicate a supposed harmless level of gluten rather than a complete absence.[5] The exact level at which gluten is harmless is uncertain and controversial.

At Naturalkart we have got several instances where our esteemed customers ask for gluten-free products for their kids. People wishing to follow a completely gluten free diet must also take into consideration the ingredients of any over-the-counter or prescription medications and vitamins. Also, cosmetics such as lipstick, lip balms, and lip gloss may contain gluten and need to be investigated before use. Glues used on envelopes may also contain gluten.

Find a list of gluten-free products at Naturalkart.com. Click here to view the range of gluten free products & order them online or by calling on +91 99200 61606.

We have also heard of gluten-free beer which sounds very exciting though we do not wish to propagate it 🙂

Cheers to a gluten-free lifestyle.
